Our centuries old olive trees
In Puglia there are over 50 million olive trees, half of these are more then 100 years old. There are about 4 million that are over 300 hundred years old. Some of these, according to complex historic and scientific studies appear to be up to 2,500-3,000 years old. (source: Puglia region). These are not old trees sparsely found in the countryside, but entire plantations that are still currently productive. Their presence represent one of the most typical, rural landscapes of the Mediterranean basin. In the approximate 30 hectare farm of the Brancati Masseria there are about 1,000 trees that are over a 1,000 years old. A peculiarity to note is that our guests take pleasure in coming up with imaginative names for our olive trees as you can see by the captions under the photos.
